Less is the new more

Singer, Jamie Gray, and guitarist, Henrik Pfeiffer, return to live performance in 2009, stripping everything down to the barest of essentials: one voice, one guitar.

At last, the real Jamie - honest, open and confessional.

Working under the admittedly dubious premise that less is more, Gray?s pure pop confections take on a new life. More intimate, more fragile, imperfect and vulnerable. The cracks in Gray?s choirboy voice are mocked by Pfeiffer?s glittering,  latinate guitar. More champagne to forget the pain; more makeup to cover the tracks of his tears.

But the music is a mask, a handsome crook, a fairground fraudster. The music lies.

Mr Gray beams at the audience. He laughs. But somehow it?s more a challenge, than an invitation. Then he smiles to himself. A sphinx?s smile. Less may be more, but he?s giving nothing away.
